Galatians 5:22-26 – Fruit of the Spirit

Galatians 6

  • Galatians 6:1-2 – Those caught up in sin should be treated gently, like we would want to be treated.
  • Galatians 6:3-6 – We must each examine our own work.
  • Galatians 6:7-9 – We must sow spiritual things to reap spiritual rewards.
  • Galatians 6:10 – This is talking about individual responsibility – not general benevolence. There are other passages that address benevolence.
  • Galatians 6:11-13
  • Galatians 6:14-15 – We must crucify the works of the world in ourselves.
  • Galatians 6:16-18 – The “Israel of God” is the church. Paul bore the marks of his suffering for Christ.

Introduction

  • God defeated them by confusing their languages.

Numbers 16 – The rebellion of Korah

  • God opened the ground and swallowed them and their households. Fire from heaven consumed the 250 princes that joined the rebellion.

God’s law is our boundary

Galatians 5, continued

  • Galatians 5:16-18 – This chapter talks about many contrasts between flesh and spirit (Philippians 2:5). See I Corinthians 2:14. We need to have the mind of Christ.
  • Galatians 5:19-21
    • Jealousy is a negative form of zeal.
    • Outbursts of wrath are not the same as righteous indignation, such as what Jesus showed. He was also notable in that He was also in control and did not have outbursts, even though He showed anger at times.
  • Galatians 5:22-26 – the fruits of the spirit
