- I Peter 3:1-15
- I Peter 3:1-2 – Peter was just discussing submission before governments and masters. He continues the discussion with instruction for wives to be submissive to their husbands (Ephesians 5:22). This does not mean that women have a lesser role at all. Wives should live so that if their husbands are not Christians, their husbands will be won over by their good example (Matthew 5:16).
- I Peter 3:3-4 – This is not an injunction against braiding hair and putting on jewelry. The inner person is much more important than the outward appearance of a person.
- I Peter 3:6 – Sarah referred to Abraham as her lord in Genesis 18:12.
- I Peter 3:7 – Husbands must understand and account for the needs of their wives.
- “as with someone weaker” – husbands are to treat their wives as though they are weaker vessels. Treat them kindly and gently. This doesn’t necessarily mean the wife is in fact weaker.
- I Peter 3:12 – Compare John 9:30-31.
- I Peter 3:15 – Set Christ apart in your heart. If you do this, you will be able to give a defense for your faith.
