  • I Corinthians 2:7-3:5
  • I Corinthians 2:11 – This seems to be referring to the Holy Spirit because I Corinthians 2:12 talks about receiving this Spirit of God and we know the Holy Spirit was specifically sent to reveal God’s Word.
  • I Corinthians 2:14-15 – The “natural man” is a man that closes his mind to spiritual things and wants to direct his own steps. The spiritually-minded man discerns all things and cannot be judged by those who do not.
  • I Corinthians 3:2 – See Hebrews 5:12-14.
  • I Corinthians 3:3 – The Corinthians were not able to bear the strong meat of God’s Word because they were still losing their battle with fleshly lusts.

  • Suffering is the lot of mankind
    • God created man and woman in the Garden of Eden and gave them everything they needed.
  • Why is this?
    • Satan is the initial case of suffering – he told Even the lie and she sinned, and then Adam sinned as well. Thus they were separated from God.
    • Suffering is not God’s fault. God made it so suffering and death did not have to happen.
  • What is the remedy?
    • Spiritually?
      • Romans 5:12
      • Romans 1:4
      • Acts 2:9-11
      • Hebrews 7:25
      • Acts 2:36
      • Matthew 11:28
      • God has adequately reversed the reality of spiritual death. He has not reversed the reality of physical death.
    • Bodily?
      • I Corinthians 6:19-20
      • Romans 6:12
    • Mentally?
      • Keep your mind active in the things of Christ.
      • Philippians 4:8
      • Hebrews 5:12
      • II Timothy 2:2
    • Emotionally?
      • Time with the Scripture, time in prayer, and time with good companions.
      • I Corinthians 15:33

  • I Corinthians 1:25-2:7
  • I Corinthians 1:28 – See the story of Naaman (II Kings 5). There was nothing special in the water except that God commanded Naaman to be washed in it. Other examples:
    • Numbers 21 – Looking upon a bronze serpent to be saved.
    • In the New Testament – baptism in water
  • I Corinthians 1:30 – Calvinists sometimes try to use this passage to teach that Christ’s righteousness is imported to us. This is false. This verse is simply explaining what Christ has done for us. He brought us wisdom, sanctification, righteousness, and redemption. If you read this to mean His righteousness is imputed to us, His wisdom, sanctification, and redemption would also have to be imputed to us, which is nonsense.
  • I Corinthians 2:4 – See II Corinthians 2:12. Paul was able to work miracles to confirm the words that he spoke. See also Galatians 1:8, 12.
