- Several baptisms are mentioned in the New Testament:
- I Corinthians 10:1-3 – baptism of Moses and Israelites in the sea
- Matthew 3:11 – baptism of the Holy Spirit and fire
- Matthew 3:6 – baptism of John the Baptist
- Ephesians 4:4-6 – baptism of the New Covenant. This is a command and not a promise
- Luke 12:50; Mark 10:38-40 – baptism of suffering
- Water baptism is not in this context. Suffering is.
- “for the dead” – “for” here could be used in the sense of “to fill the ranks.”
- Several baptisms are mentioned in the New Testament:
- I Corinthians 15:33-34 – This seems to be specifically directed to those who believed in the resurrection as a warning against close companionship with those who did not believe in the resurrection. Those who did not believe in the resurrection were living sinful lives as it says in I Corinthians 15:32: “Let us eat and drink for tomorrow we die.”
- I Corinthians 15:35-44 – The resurrected body is an immortal body. We do not yet know what it will be like.
