  • The Bible teaches about one church/body.
    • Ephesians 4:1-6; 1:22-23; 5:23-27 – There is only one Savior: There is therefore, only one church that He has saved.

      • Jesus is talking to His apostles. They are the branches. The branches are not denominations.

  • “But denominationalism is Scriptural because Christ is the head of each division of His church.”
    • There are no divisions of Christ’s church in the denominational sense.

  • Practical points:
    • Be a member of Christ’s one church. Matthew 16:18; Acts 20:28
    • Study and learn Christ’s one truth. Ephesians 4:5
    • It’s not enough for a local church to be non-denominational. We must learn and practice the truth. John 12:48.

  • I Corinthians 1:10-25
  • I Corinthians 1:10-17 – Paul appeals to them to stop calling themselves followers of particular men. Instead, they were to be unified as followers of Christ. See also I Corinthians 3:4.
    • I Corinthians 1:17 – This is a “not-but” passage. Paul was sent to baptize, but that was not his primary goal. His primary goal was to preach the gospel. Only when someone hears and believes on their own will they be ready to be baptized.
  • I Corinthians 1:18-25 – Many people today still consider the gospel to be foolishness. God chose the message of the gospel to be foolishness to those who are wise in their own eyes. We should not be surprised when that is the case.
