  • The demons
    • Jesus is superior!
    • Mark 3:22-25 – Satan was in control of the demons.
    • Luke 4:33-37, 41 – The demons knew who Jesus was.
    • II Peter 2:4; Jude 1:6 – It’s not necessarily true that demons are fallen angels. The Bible does not conclusively teach this.
    • John 9:3 – The man was blind so that Jesus could heal him.
    • It’s likely that demon possession only happened for a few years in the first century so that God’s power could be demonstrated.
    • Mark 5:7 – There is no battle here. The demons know Jesus is in charge!

    • Don’t mistake restraint for weakness.

  • I Corinthians 5:8-13
  • I Corinthians 5:10-11 – It is not possible to live in the world and avoid social contact with all immoral people. We are to avoid social contact and spiritual fellowship with immoral people who call themselves brethren.
  • I Corinthians 5:12 – We are to judge those who are within the church by withholding spiritual fellowship and social contact from those who are walking in sin. It is not saying we cannot rebuke those who do not claim to be Christians when they sin. This passage is specifically speaking to the problem of a member of the congregation living in immorality. This passage does not address how members of other congregations should be treated if they are living in sin.
