      • John 8:46; 10:25 – Jesus rebukes people for lack of faith.
    • Being children of Abraham
      • Luke 19:10 – Salvation came to the house of Zaccheus. Jesus called him a son of Abraham.
      • Mark 7:9 – Jesus rebukes them for following their traditions instead of God’s commandments.

    • Bad attitudes and habits that get in the way, continued:
      • We oversimplify (Mark 4:10-12; Luke 20:37; Acts 17:11)
      • We overcomplicate (I Timothy 6:3-5; II Timothy 2:14, 23)
        • Matthew 13:23
      • We think, “I’m finished. I have a perfect understanding of the Bible.”

        • Ezekiel 37:15-17 – Mormons use this passage to say the two sticks are the Bible and the Book of Mormon. From the context we can tell this passage is referring to Jews and Gentiles – not the Bible and Book of Mormon.
        • Daniel 4 – This passage is incorrectly reinterpreted by Jehovah’s Witnesses.
    • Good attitudes that foster spiritual growth
      • Sincere dedication (II Kings 22:8-23:3)
      • Desire to study, practice, and teach (Ezra 7:10).
      • Individual responsibility (Acts 17:11).
      • Action (James 1:21-27).

  • I Thessalonians 5:1-11
  • It will come just like a thief in the night.
    • Reminder: The phrase “the day of the Lord” doesn’t always refer to the end of the world. The context must determine the meaning.
    • I Thessalonians 2:19; 3:13; 4:13-18
    • The day of the Lord is a certainty! II Peter 3:10
    • The timing is unpredictable.
  • Let us be alert and sober.
    • I Thessalonians 5:6-8 – Jesus is making the jump from physical sleep to metaphorical sleep. We must be alert and awake spiritually. I Peter 5:8
    • Remember that the devil is prowling around. We must be alert!
    • Romans 13:11-14
    • I Thessalonians 1:2-3, 7-8; 4:1, 10 – These were good people, but they needed the warning, too!
    • II Thessalonians 3:11 – We can all fall away. Some of the Thessalonians had!
  • Encourage one another.

  • Psalms 70:4 – Our purpose in life is to magnify God.

  • Psalms 73:1 – The only way to be pure in heart is through forgiveness. Psalms 32:1
  • Psalms 74:1 – See Isaiah 59:1-2 for the answer to this question. Sin is the only reason God has ever cast anyone off.
