Wisdom and Folly

Proverbs 9

Two women are described: Wisdom and Folly.
Proverbs 9:1-12
- The woman Wisdom desires a relationship. She wants people to come and learn. Compare John 9:35; Revelation 22:17; Matthew 5:6; Proverbs 10:17; 4:11
- When seeking wisdom, you can walk with no one wiser than Christ. Colossians 2:3
- Proverbs 9:3-6 – The woman sends out messengers to invite people to wisdom. Compare Luke 14:16; II Corinthians 5:20; Luke 11:49; I Corinthians 2:6
  - Romans 10:14 – God sends out His messengers.
  - See Psalms 119:130. To respond, we must turn to God’s Word.
Proverbs 9:13-18 – The invitation of the woman of folly (the wisdom of the world).

- Proverbs 7:10 – Foolishness is loud and rebellious.

Psalms 73:16 – The writer was invited to wisdom.
Psalms 73:2-6 – The writer saw the allure of worldly wealth.
Psalms 73:16-19 – The writer came to understand the end of the rich. See Matthew 16:26; 13:22. God’s wisdom was the right path.
