• Matthew 6:16-7:1
  • Matthew 6:16-18 – No fasts are commanded in the New Testament. We do have some examples in Acts 13 and 14 of Christians fasting. It is okay to skip meals to devote yourself to service to God, but the emphasis must be on service to God and not on being noticed by men for your fasting.
  • Matthew 6:19-21 – This is not a prohibition on savings accounts. Our focus should always be on spiritual things. That’s where we should invest our time and effort.
  • Matthew 6:22-23 – The eye indicates where you intend to go. If you intend to do good, your eye will be on good things and will bring light to your whole body.
  • Matthew 6:24-34 – Anxiety about earthly things does little good. We must do our part to work (II Thessalonians 3:10) and trust in God for the rest. Our focus should always be on seeking God first (Matthew 6:33).
    • Psalms 27:35 – God will provide for the saints.
  • Matthew 7:1 – We do have to do some judging, otherwise we could not know people by their fruits (Matthew 7:20).
