- Matthew 16:18 – “church” is from the Greek word ἐκκλησία, which means a “calling out,” a “meeting,” or a religious “congregation.”
- Matthew 16:13-26 – Jesus is the Son of God, the head of the church.

- Acts 8:1-4 – The church was being persecuted, meaning the people were being persecuted.
- Acts 12:1-5 – Those who were obeying Christ “belonged to the church.”

- I Corinthians 1:1-3 – Members of the church are called saints.

- I Corinthians 12:27-31 – Christians are members of the body of Christ.

- Ephesians 3:8-12 – The purpose of the church is to make the wisdom of God known to everyone. It is to spread God’s word and edify others.
