  • It is not the work of elders:
    • To be a centralized board to receive money from many congregations to do a big work.
    • To build, maintain, or support human institutions for any cause.
    • To oversee any brotherhood function.
      • Brotherhood preacher training program
      • Brotherhood becture
    • When we think about elders, let us be sure we think about the local church, not the brotherhood.

  • I can be part of the effort for years and still choose to sin.

  • A “small” vice can become my big downfall.

    • Matthew 26:14-16 - Judas’ “small” vice becomes a bigger problem.
    • John 7:30 - Jesus had been in danger of arrest many times.
    • James 1:14-15 - the progression of sin
    • Matthew 5:21-26 - Don’t even allow sin to start!
    • Matthew 5:27-28 - To stop adultery, stop lusting after women! Stop the sin before it can even get started.

  • I shouldn’t give up on myself
    • Matthew 27:1-5 - Judas hanged himself when he saw what was happening to Jesus.
