  • The gods of Egypt
    • The Egyptians were polytheistic
    • 1st Plague – Water to blood – Exodus 7:19-22 – The Egyptians idolized the Nile River. Many of their gods related somehow to the Nile.
    • 2nd Plague – Frogs – Exodus 8:3-7 – Egyptians deified frogs as a sign of prosperity.
    • 3rd Plague – Gnats – Exodus 8:16-19 – Physical cleanliness and purity was important to the Egyptians.
    • 4th Plague – Flies – Exodus 8:21-23
    • 5th Plague – Death of livestock – Exodus 9:2-7 – Now physical property is being affected. This would be a huge economic problem. There were several sacred bulls and cows that were revered for worship.
    • 6th Plague – Boils – Exodus 9:10-11 – Where were all the gods of healing?
    • 7th Plague – Hail – Exodus 9:22 – Where are the sky gods?
    • 8th Plague – Locusts – Exodus 10:4-6 – Why couldn’t the gods protect the crops?
    • 9th Plague – Darkness – Exodus 10:21-23 – What about the sun god Ra?
    • 10th Plague – Death of firstborn – Exodus 11:4-8 – The firstborn of Pharaoh was supposed to have a divine property.

  • Hebrews 4:11 – We must labor now so that we can enter that rest. We should not try to take our rest now and in so doing, fail to reach that eternal rest. II Corinthians 5:10
  • Hebrews 4:12 – The idea here is piercing – not dividing. The word of God goes all the way to the thoughts and intentions of the heart. See I Thessalonians 5:23. Spirit is the everlasting part of man. The soul is the animating force of man.
