  • Criticism is uncomfortable
    • If you enjoy giving criticism, you are probably not giving it in the right way.
    • II Timothy 3:16-17
    • Proverbs 13:18
    • Galatians 6:1 – Criticism is necessary.
    • Titus 1:3 – Criticism is necessary to make us sound in faith.
  • Giving criticism
    • Philippians 2:1-4
    • Colossians 3:12-17 – If we do not have love, we will give criticism with the wrong heart.
    • II Timothy 2:22-26 – Teaching is an important aspect of criticism.
    • II Timothy 4:2 – We must have patience when criticizing others.
    • I Peter 5:5 – Be humble!
    • Be care to not have an “I gotcha!” attitude in criticizing others.
  • Receiving criticism
    • Philippians 2:1-4 – We must receive criticism in a spirit of love.
    • Proverbs 9:7-9 – Receive criticism with wisdom. Use it to improve.
    • Do not receive criticism with pride or anger. It doesn’t help anyone.
  • Peter and Paul
    • Galatians 1:18-2:14 – When Peter was in error, Paul withstood him to his face.
    • II Peter 3:13-18 – Peter still counted Paul as a beloved brother.

  • The world needs God’s Word, which is good and profitable!

    • Titus 2:15-3:2 – Titus was to speak with confidence and authority.

      • II Corinthians 8:6, 16-23; 12:17-18 – Titus was sent to deal with sensitive money issues.

  • Luke 4:22-5:16
  • Luke 4:22 – This is the last mention of Joseph in the New Testament.
  • Luke 4:25-31 – Both of the examples Jesus used showed how God blessed Gentiles who trusted in God. This enraged the Jews.
  • Luke 4:38-44 – Jesus heals many.
    • Luke 4:38-39 – See Matthew 5:10-11; 6:12-16. When Jesus called Peter to be an apostle, Peter had plenty of evidence that Jesus was the Christ.
  • Luke 5:1-11 – Simon, James, and John see Jesus’ power and leave everything to follow Him.
  • Luke 5:12-16 – Jesus heals the leper.
    • Luke 5:16 – Notice that Jesus would take time to pray, even with so many people longing for His teaching. This gives us some indication of how important prayer is.
