Luke 6:20-7:17
Luke 6:20-26 – The Beatitudes.
Luke 6:27-28 – Love your enemies.
Luke 6:29-30 – See Acts 12:5-11; 13:50-51; 16:35-39; 17:10, 14; 20:3; 22:25-29; 23:17; 24:12-13; 25:11; II Thessalonians 3:10. Taken in harmony with other scriptures, Jesus is not saying that we should not defend ourselves or allow people to abuse us. We should not be eager to hold other people’s sins against them. We have all sinned!
Luke 6:31-35 – Treat others the way you want to be treated.
Luke 6:36-38 – See Luke 17:3.
Luke 6:39-45 – We have to address our own issues before we can hope to help others.
Luke 6:46-49 – The difference between those who hear and do and those who hear and don’t do. See Ezekiel 33:30-33.
Luke 7:1-10 – Jesus heals the servant of the Roman centurion after he displays great faith.
Luke 7:11-17 – Jesus raises a dead man being carried in a coffin.

Godly Peace

Philippians 4:6-13
Godly peace is a peace that comes from having a God-ward attitude.
Do not be overly anxious. Philippians 4:6
- Matthew 6:25-34 – God provides for His people. If we have the right priorities, other things will take care of themselves. Take one day at a time.
- Matthew 6:11 – Note that Jesus prays for the bread for today.
Prayer is necessary in order to enjoy godly peace. Philippians 4:6
- I Peter 5:6-7 – Prayer is a way of casting our anxieties on God.
- I Samuel 1:15
- Ephesians 5:20 – Thanksgiving must be a part of our prayers.
- Psalms 100:3-5
Enduring peace comes from God. Philippians 4:7
- Psalms 29:11
- John 14:27
- John 16:33
Only a spiritual mind and a spiritual life enjoy peace. Philippians 4:8-9
- Romans 8:6 – Spiritual mindedness brings peace.
- Isaiah 26:3 – The one who trusts in God will be kept in perfect peace.
- Matthew 6:19-21 – We must focus on treasures in heaven, not earth.
We must learn to be content. Philippians 4:10-12
- Hebrews 13:5-6
- Luke 3:14 – We must be content and live within our means.
- Acts 17:28
We must trust in God. Philippians 4:13
- We must truly surrender our will to God.

Being a Soldier in God’s Army

Introduction
- Revelation 12:1-17 – Revelation details a figurative battle between good and evil.
- Philippians 2:25 – First century saints are often described as soldiers.
What does it take to be a soldier for Christ?
- We have to fight! I Timothy 6:12
  - I Timothy 1:18-19
  - Jude 1:3
  - II Timothy 4:6-8 – Paul fought a good fight.
  - This is a spiritual fight.
  - II Corinthians 10:3-6
- We must endure hardship. II Timothy 2:3
  - II Timothy 4:7
  - A good soldier does not quit!
- We have to be focused. I Timothy 1:18-19
  - II Timothy 2:4 – Don’t be distracted by this world.
  - I Corinthians 16:13 – Be on the alert!
- We must be skilled with the right weapon. Ephesians 6:10-17
  - II Timothy 3:16-17 – The Word of God is the weapon we need.
  - Romans 1:16
  - We can’t be effective wielding the sword of the Spirit without training and practice.
  - Titus 1:9-10
  - I Timothy 4:13-16
I Corinthians 15:55-57 – God gives us the victory! We just have to stay faithful to Him.
Jude 1:24-25

Learn to Teach

We are given the responsibility to teach.
- Matthew 28:19-20
- Acts 5:42
- We may not all teach publicly, but we still have the responsibility to teach.
- II Timothy 2:24-25
- Titus 2:4-5
- Ephesians 6:4
- There are many different circumstances where we can teach.
Our motivation to teach should always be love.
- Ephesians 4:14-16
- Luke 12:22-37
- Matthew 15:7-4 – Sometimes a firm approach is needed, but we must do it with love.
- Jude 1:22-23 – Different people need different approaches.
- Out of our love must come self-control.
  - John 2:13-16 – We must maintain self-control, even if we have to be severe with people.
- Out of our love must come patience.
  - Acts 17:32, 34
  - Acts 13:42
- We must learn to transition from a physical conversation to a spiritual one.
  - John 4:5-26
  - We must learn to ask questions of people and listen carefully to their responses.
    - Mark 2:23-28
    - Matthew 21:23-27 – Some questions should not be answered.
  - There are times when we need to back up and cover the fundamentals.
    - Acts 6:10-7:2ff – Steven backed up to establish common ground with his audience.
  - The Bible is truth.
    - John 17:17
    - If we are going to answer people effectively, we have to know what the Bible says and where it says it.
    - II Timothy 2:15
    - We must answer with the scriptures!
  - Matthew 25:29 – If we keep working, we will get better.
  - Galatians 6:9 – Don’t grow weary. This is important work!
