  • I Corinthians 12:15-26 – Paul compares the members of the spiritual body to the members of the physical body. Each member is subject to the head and must fulfill its role. If not, the body will not be healthy.
  • I Corinthians 12:23 – See Matthew 25:8. From the newest member to the oldest member, if all are fulfilling their roles, they are all acceptable to God.

  • Many believe that we are saved by belief in God. Hebrews 11:6
  • Are we saved by belief only or a belief that obeys? Galatians 5:6
  • Romans 3:23; I John 2:1-2
  • Titus 3:5 – Salvation is not by works of merit.
  • God expects us to accept salvation on His terms and conditions. Jeremiah 10:23
  • When “believe” is used in conjunction with another word, we know it is used in a specific sense.

  • Here, belief is used in a comprehensive sense. It includes obedience.

    • Numbers 21:6-9 – If any had believed, but not gone to look at the serpent, he would have still died.

    • Wisdom: See I Corinthians 2:6-7. Unless wisdom is received as a spiritual gift, the only way to get it is to pray for it and seek it out.
    • Knowledge: See Galatians 1:11-12.
  • I Corinthians 12:9
    • Faith: See Romans 10:17. It’s possible this was not a saving faith but a faitht hat they could do what God endowed them to do.
    • Healing: All miracles were not to heal people.
  • I Corinthians 12:10
    • Distinguishing spirits: Some apparently had the ability to determine if spirits were of God or not.
  • I Corinthians 12:8-11 – Nine different gifts are listed here. It seems that at least one person in the church at Corinth had each of these gifts.
  • I Corinthians 12:12-27 – The body being discussed here is the church in the universal sense.
