  • I Peter 4:6-17
  • I Peter 4:6 – Because all will be judged by the gospel (both alive and dead), the gospel was preached to everyone. Catholics have a different view on this verse, believing that Jesus was crucified and went to Hell, where He preached to people there. This view is not supported by scripture and is refuted by verses such as II Corinthians 5:10.
  • I Peter 4:8 – Compare Proverbs 10:12.
  • I Peter 4:9 – Hospitality should be done out of love. If you are hospitable and grumble about it, it does you no good.
  • I Peter 4:10 – A steward handles the goods of another. All Christians are stewards of the grace of God. It’s hard to imagine a greater unmerited favor than working for God to save men’s souls.
  • I Peter 4:12 – Don’t be surprised if you have to suffer for your faith but rejoice in it.
  • I Peter 4:17 – This judgment is not the end of the world. Many judgments are described in the Bible:
    • Matthew 24 – Judgment on Israel
    • James 5 – Judgment on the rich man

  • I Peter 3:15-4:6
  • I Peter 3:15-16 – Tell people how to live godly lives and show them by your example. Together, those two things may bring some to follow Christ.
  • I Peter 3:18-20 – Some take the view that this is saying that Jesus descended to Hell to preach to the spirits there. However, this does not harmonize with other scriptures.
    • II Peter 2:5 – Noah described as a preacher of righteousness.
    • Isaiah 61:1-2 – Jesus quotes this in Luke 4 and applies it to Himself. The prison is the prison of sin.
    • Ephesians 4:8 – Jesus led a host of captives.
    • Conclusion: Jesus in the spirit spoke through Noah to the sinful people while the ark was being built.
  • I Peter 3:21 – The reason for mentioning Noah in I Peter 3:18-20 was to make the connection of salvation and water to baptism.
  • I Peter 4:3 – This verse directly condemns social drinking as it condemns both drunkenness and drinking parties.
  • I Peter 4:5 – When Jesus comes again, He will judge both those who are still alive when He comes and those who have already died.
