  • Visitors, continued:
    • Develop genuine love and concern
      • I Timothy 2:3-4 (II Peter 3:9)
      • Acts 26:24-29
      • We want everyone in our sphere of influence to serve God!
      • II Corinthians 7:2-7; 11:28-29
      • If we have genuine love and concern for people, it will be evident to visitors. This should not be something that only happens at the church building. We should always have love and concern for people, no matter where we are.
    • Avoid cliques (“holy huddles”)
      • James 2:1-9
      • Acts 11:19-21, 26 – Jews and Greeks were present in the same church. What must have been like there? They came from different backgrounds, but were able to assemble and work together as a church.

  • Ephesians 4:1-16
  • Ephesians 4:1 – “Therefore” is based on his statement in Ephesians 3:20-21. He’s asking the saints in Ephesus to do these things because we are all to give glory to God.
    • Romans 1:7; I Corinthians 2:1-2 – Our calling is to be saints.
  • Ephesians 4:2 – Let us not mistake meekness for weakness.
  • Ephesians 4:3 – Our unity should be based on the word of God.
  • Ephesians 4:4-6
    • The denominational view: There is one God, Lord, and Spirit, but there are many faiths, hopes, baptisms, and bodies.
    • Members of the one body are individuals – not congregations.
    • Denominations may as well teach: There is one faith, hope, baptism, and body, but many Gods, Lords, and Spirits.
    • The truth: There is one God, Lord, Spirit, faith, hope, baptism, and body.
  • Ephesians 4:11-12 – The duty of evangelists, pastors, and teachers is still the same today. They are to equip the saints for serving God and build up the body of Christ.
  • Ephesians 4:13 – God wants us to be spiritually mature so that we will not be led astray by error. This is not saying that preachers and teachers are just here until all men unify in faith. Instead, their role is to help get each of us to spiritual maturity.

  • II Peter 3:9-18
  • II Peter 3:12 – Compare Philippians 1:21-23. Paul earnestly desired the coming of the Lord, but he was torn knowing that he was doing good for others with his teaching. See Matthew 25:31-46.
  • II Peter 3:13 – Note that heavens is plural, and earth is singular. The Bible speaks of multiple “heavens,” the highest of which is the abode of God.
  • II Peter 3:16 – Paul’s writings were already being included in the canon at this point. It did not take the Catholic church to decide that Paul’s letters were canonical.
  • I John

    • Purpose of writing:
      • May have fellowship with us
