  • I John 2:7-21
  • I John 2:8 – See John 13:34.
  • I John 2:16 – The devil only has three ways to get us to sin: lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes, and pride of life. Satan used all three of these on Even in Genesis 3:1-6. He also used the same approach when tempting Jesus.
  • I John 2:19 – Being against Christ is not the only way one can become an antichrist. Claiming to be for Christ, but working against His teachings is also sufficient to become an antichrist.
  • I John 2:20 – This “anointing” is the word of truth. I John 2:21 shows that they know the truth – this is that “anointing.”

  • The Bible stands or falls on the reliability of Genesis
    • The Bible describes Creation as six literal days
      • Hebrew “yom” = “day”
      • Morris: “Yom” with a numeric or ordinal modifier always means a literal day.
      • Rogers: “These days have gone so quickly.” vs “These five days have gone so quickly.”
    • Bible genealogies reveal Adam lived roughly 6,000 years ago.
      • Genesis 5
      • Present à Christ: 2,000 years
      • Christ à Abraham: 2,000 years
      • Abraham à Adam: 2,000 years
      • Total: 6,000 years
    • The rest of the Bible refers to Genesis as real, historical fact.
      • Matthew 19:4
    • So what’s the problem?
      • Long periods of time required for evolution.
  • Radioisotope dating methods are wildly unreliable.
    • Based on assumptions
      • Initial conditions
      • No outside interference
      • Rate of decay always the same.
    • Hulalai Basalt (AD 1800-1801) – dated at 1.4-1.6 million years old
    • … many other examples of known incorrect dates
  • Mount St. Helens proved that catastrophes can make huge geological changes (… so think about a global flood!)
    • Geologists leaned how quickly canyons can form!
      • Genesis 7:11
    • The Yellowstone Petrified Forest was reinterpreted.
      • Spirit Lake after Mount St. Helens
  • Original tissue is being discovered in dinosaur bones (and it shouldn’t be there if they are 65 million years old)
  • II Peter 3:3-7 – Good science and the Bible are not enemies!

  • I John 1:1-2:6
  • I John 1:4 – John was writing so that they could have fellowship together and with God. That fellowship would bring great joy.
  • I John 1:8-10 – However much we’d like to, we are not able to live without sinning before God. Thus, we need forgiveness.
  • I John 2:1 – The ideal: sin not. The real: When we sin, we have an advocate with God the Father. That advocate is Jesus Christ.
  • I John 2:3 – Obedience is how we know that we know God. We can’t say we have faith if we are not obeying God. See I John 2:6.
  • I John 2:6 – If we say we abide in God, we ought to walk as Jesus walked.
