  • Acts 10:1-11:18
  • Acts 10:1-8, 22-23 – Cornelius and his family became the first Gentiles to obey Christ under the New Covenant.
  • Acts 10:10-11 – The ability to eat unclean animals was an enormous change. These animals had been forbidden to eat for 1500 years!
  • Acts 10:27-28 – Peter puts all the visions together to realize that Gentiles are now included. The Jew/Gentile distinction is no longer in place. The vision was about food, but Peter inferred that the deeper meaning was about people. Acts 10:44-48 confirms that Peter inferred correctly.
  • Acts 10:34-43 – The Gentiles are taught the gospel for the first time.
  • Acts 10:3-6 – Cornelius had a miraculous vision, but this was not sufficient for salvation. He still had to hear the gospel and be baptized.
  • Acts 11:18 – The Jews rose above longstanding prejudice to accept that Gentiles were now part of God’s kingdom.
  • Acts 10:38 – See Luke 4:18-19 – This is not implying that Jesus did not have His own power. It is an example of deity working together. Hebrews 1:2; Genesis 1:2; John 1:1-3 show this in the creation.

  • Luke 11:31-12:21
  • Luke 11:33-36 – Compare Matthew 5:16.
  • Luke 11:41 – If they gave alms with the right heart, that would ensure they were pure in God’s eyes. It was not enough to just be outwardly clean. It was much more important to be inwardly clean.
  • Luke 11:44 – Jesus was saying the Pharisees were of no more significance to God than tombs hidden underground. This would have been a tremendous blow to their pride!
  • Luke 11:45-52 – Jesus did not spare the lawyers and charged them with all the evil they had a part in. Not only did they not obey God, they prevented others from obeying God also.
  • Luke 12:4-7 – We shouldn’t fear men nearly so much as we fear God!
  • Luke 12:8-9 – This confession is more than just confessing with words. It’s the same ideas as Matthew 10 – confessing God with both your words and actions.
  • Luke 12:10 – Compare Mark 3:30. Blaspheming against the Holy Spirit was taking works of God and attributing them to Satan. Men today can reject God, but then learn the truth and be saved. This particular sin cannot be committed today because miracles are no longer performed in the way they were then.
  • Luke 12:15 – Life is more than possessions!
  • Luke 12:21 – If you are only rich in physical matters and not toward God, you are eternally doomed!

  • We have noticed some things that God cannot do. In each case it was His nature and character that made it impossible for Him to do those things.

  • How do you tell the difference between a Christian and a non-Christian?

  • Philippians 2:15

  • We must teach the truth.

    • I Corinthians 1:21

    • Acts 17 – The philosophers rejected Paul’s teachings about a crucified Savior.

    • People don’t necessarily believe this story today.

  • Acts 9:1-43

  • Acts 9:1-9 – It is possible to be sincerely wrong. Sincerity does not equal truth! In modern times, Jesus does not intervene directly like He did in the case of Paul. It is our responsibility to study and find truth.

  • Acts 9:10-19 – Ananias obeyed God despite the threat Paul posed. He was able to see beyond Paul’s problems. We should be able to overcome our doubts and extend love to others like Ananias.

  • Acts 9:15-16 – See Ephesians 3:8; Acts 25:11; 17:1-2.

  • Acts 9:20-30 – See Galatians 1:15-24. Paul evidently made a trip to Arabia at some point here. When we become loyal to Christ, earthly relationships are bound to change.

  • Acts 9:31 – Descriptive phrases about the church:

    • “enjoyed peace”

    • “being built up”

    • “going on in the fear of the Lord”

    • “and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit”

    • “continued to increase”

  • Acts 9:32-43 – These miracles were undeniable. The conditions were not faked, and the healing was instantaneous!
