Introduction

We must learn to be content with the blessings we have.

  • Genesis 2:9
  • Even focused on the good in the sin.
  • Genesis 2:8-18 – Look at where Adam and Eve lived! They had everything they needed! Why not be content with this?
  • Philippians 4:11-13 – Paul learned to be content in whatever situation he was in.

We should be scared of sin’s consequences.

  • We don’t know how sin might hurt.
    • Genesis 3:7-11 – They had a changed attitude about self (shame) and blamed each other.
  • We don’t know who sin might hurt.
    • Eve’s sin drew in Adam as well.
  • We don’t know how long sin might hurt.
    • Genesis 3:16-24 – The rest of their lives were changed!

God provides hope!

  • Genesis 3:9, 15 – God was alluding to the coming of Jesus.
  • Galatians 4:4

Boyfriend and girlfriend, continued

Listen to people around you who are spiritually wise.

There’s no such thing as a soul mate.

  • If I start having trouble in my marriage and start doubting that my spouse is my soul mate, this line of thinking could cause me to seek another.
  • Titus 2:3-4
  • Ephesians 5:25
  • Whoever I choose to be married to, I have to make it work!
  • Romans 5:8

Beware of infatuation.

Am I equating physical attraction with true love?

  • II Samuel 13:1-6, 11-17 – Amnon acts on his infatuation with Tamar. Any time we stray from God’s plan, we are setting ourselves up for trouble.
  • Genesis 39:6-15, 20 – Potiphar’s wife is infatuated with Joseph.

Am I just in love with being in love?

  • I Kings 11:1-3; Ecclesiastes 2:8
