  • Mark 16:9 - Accounting for Jesus being the tomb for three days:

  • Acts 10:3 - Example of time accounting in the New Testament. Cornelius counts the time as four days, but we would probably call it three days since it was roughly 72 hours. Cornelius counted the partial first and fourth days as full days.

  • II Chronicles 10:5 - This is another example from the Old Testament.

  • Matthew 27:63-64 - Jesus’ enemies certainly understood Jesus about time.

  • We must be careful not to bind God’s law further than He intended.

  • We read of some kinds of law that would definitely violate the Sabbath day law. Jeremiah 17:21-22

  • We read of some kinds of work to which the Sabbath law did not apply. II Kings 11:5

  • But what about everything else? You would have to use your best judgment.

  • What about pulling an animal from a pit? Matthew 12:10-12

  • Would it have been okay for any Jews to forbid others from pulling their sheep out of a pit on Sabbath days, or to enforce the death penalty upon those who did?

  • Does this mean we can make our own exceptions to God’s law?

  • Absolutely not!

  • I Corinthians 7:1 - What about doctors and nurses? This is not the kind of touch this verse is referring to.

  • I Timothy 2:9 - What about a woman who goes in for a medical exam?

  • How far did God intend us to apply the disassociation command of I Corinthians 5?

  • Family is not specified. And further, I cannot say with finality that family is necessarily implied.

  • I know that in some cases, it would not apply to family.

  • Warnings

  • Let’s maintain the proper attitude toward sin.

  • Recognize disassociation as a method of helping.

  • Titus 2:2 - Duties for older men.
  • Titus 2:3 - Duties for older women. Some claim this passage permits social drinking, but this verse is not discussing that. There are many other passages that prohibit all kinds of drinking.
  • Titus 2:4-5 - Duties for young women: love their husbands, love their children, be keepers at home.
  • Titus 2:6-8 - Duties for young men: be sensible and pure in all things. The underlying theme in all these duties is to bring honor to God.
