  • Hebrews 8:1-13
  • Hebrews 8:6 – The new covenant is built on better promises in that our sins are forgiven forever – not just rolled forward year by year.
  • Hebrews 8:10 – Being God’s people involves following the pattern God has set for us, both personally and collectively.
  • Hebrews 8:13 – See Jeremiah 31:31. This is exactly what Jeremiah prophesied over 700 years earlier. The old law is obsolete and no longer in force.
    • Some argue that there was a transition period in AD 33-70 during which the Jews were still to worship according to the old covenant. Hebrews 13:10 and 10:9 show this not to be true. When the new covenant was in effect (Acts 2), the old covenant was immediately obsolete.

  • Titus 1:9-2:10
  • Titus 1:12 – This appears to be a quote from Epimenides. Crete was renowned in those days for being wicked.
  • Titus 1:13-14 – It wasn’t any easier to be a Christian back then!
  • Titus 1:15 – See Colossians 2:13-23. Paul is speaking against following old Jewish myths and commandments.
  • Titus 1:16 – See John 19:28.

  • Luke 13:23-25
  • Matthew 22:14; 7:13-14
  • Why will only a few be saved?
    • It is not because God wants it that way. II Peter 3:9; Luke 15:7
    • It is not because of an insufficient sacrifice. Hebrews 10:4-5,10
      • Acts 10:34 – It is not because the sacrifice of Jesus is not sufficient for all
    • It is not because the gospel is weak. I Corinthians 2:11; Romans 1:16
    • These facts absolve God of any blame for any man being lost.
  • The Lord’s answer
    • He said unto them – not just the one who inquired.
    • Strive!
  • Are you saved?
    • Notice how personal Jesus made it.
    • If we are ever saved, it will be now!

  • Fully inspired!
  • I Corinthians 2:7-13
  • I Corinthians 2:9 – This is not speaking of heaven. It is talking about inspiration of God.
  • II Timothy 3:16-17
  • II Peter 1:20-21
  • The Bible is fully inspired
    • Yet it is denied by some in various groups.
    • By affirming the proposition, we offset all these denials.
      • Certain men were separated from the world by God to serve as amanuenses.
        • John 17:6-8,18-20
        • II Peter 1:20 – See I Corinthians 2:12-13
        • Matthew 10:19
        • Acts 2:4
        • Ephesians 3:3-5
      • Inspiration was in depth. Even tense and numbers were significant in revealing divine truth.
        • Matthew 22:31-32
        • Galatians 3:16
      • Sometimes the men revealing the words did not even understand the meaning.
        • I Peter 1:10-11
        • Daniel 12:8
      • Inspiration terminated upon the book, not upon the men.

  • Hebrews 7:11-8:2
  • Hebrews 7:11 – If salvation could have come through the Levitical priesthood, there would have been no need for a new priesthood.
  • Hebrews 7:14 – This verse demonstrates how the silence of the scriptures must be respected. The scriptures said nothing about a priest from the tribe of Judah, thus no priest from that tribe was allowed under the Old Covenant.
  • Hebrews 7:21 – The priests of the Old Covenant served only for a limited time, but Jesus now serves as a high priest in perpetuity.
  • Hebrews 7:26 – See Ephesians 1:19-23.
  • Hebrews 7:27 – Jesus sacrificed Himself once for all. We need no further sacrifice just as we need no further revelation.
