Introduction

  • Hebrews 8:1-6

We can be at peace on earth knowing that our High Priest is always at work in Heaven.

  • Hebrews 2:17
  • Leviticus 16:15, 32-34 – The priest was to offer a sin offering.
  • Hebrews 9:23-28 – The physical things of the old law were only shadows of better things to come.

That encourages me to hold to my convictions.

And I am reminded just how much God loves me.

Faith changes us: putting on the new man

  • Colossians 3:10
  • Ephesians 4:24
  • What does a “new man” look like?
  • II Peter 1:5
  • There are specific sins to avoid. These are inherently sinful and have always been so.
  • Colossians 3:5, 8-9 – See also Galatians 5:19-21; I Corinthians 5:11; 6:9; II Timothy 3:1-5
  • I Thessalonians 5:22
  • These are negative things that we must get out of our lives.
  • What are the positive things that faith encourages us to add to our lives?
  • Colossians 3:1-2, 10
  • Titus 2:11-12
  • I Corinthians 3:16-17
  • I Peter 1:16
  • Hebrews 11:6
    • Note again two elements:
      • Believe that He is (faith)
      • Action (seeking Him)
    • God rewards those seeking Him and God does what He says.
    • The action (obeying Him) from faith (love of God) is diligently seeking Him (obeying Him and wanting to be like Him).
  • We just don’t declare ourselves holy: it takes faith!
  • Faith and wanting to please God becomes our catalyst to be wanted to be like Him and having a direct relationship with God.
  • This connection to God comes through prayer.
  • Revelation 21:3 – Through prayer we develop a one-on-one relationship to God. He becomes our God, and we become one of His people.
  • This strengthens my faith, my trust, my courage, and makes my love Him even more.
  • I Thessalonians 5:22
  • Romans 3:23
  • Romans 6:1-2, 12-13
  • I John 1:8-9

  • II Peter 1:10-11
