  • To study the Bible regularly, frequently, and diligently. (I Timothy 4:13; II Timothy 2:15)
  • To pray often and fervently. (I Thessalonians 5:17)
  • To teach the word more (Matthew 28:20; Hebrews 10:24-25)
  • To give liberally and willingly.
  • To have fellowship in all scriptural functions of the congregation when possible.
  • To love my brethren and work in unity with them in all things in the Lord. (Romans 12:18)
  • To serve in such a way as to cause the congregation to grow; not to live so as to hold it back.
  • To keep self pure in manner of living.
  • To keep church pure.
  • To become more Christ-like day by day.
  • Summed up: to grow in the grace and knowledge of Christ. (II Peter 3:18)

  • Luke 19:10 – Jesus came to seek and save the lost.
  • To teach them the truth
    • We can’t make them obey it or even listen, but we must make the effort to teach.
    • We must plant the seed. It is God’s business to give the increase.
    • Luke 4:16-20 – Jesus taught publicly. Those that have the ability and assignment can do the same.
    • Matthew 18 – Jesus also taught privately.
    • Acts 5:42 – The apostles taught publicly and privately.
    • Acts 20:20,17 – Paul taught publicly and privately.
    • All can have part in public teaching even if they can’t teach themselves by inviting others to the study.
    • Even if we don’t see immediate results, we must keep on teaching!
  • To set the proper example
  • To what degree is each responsible?

  • Judges 2:7
  • “There arose another generation” (Judges 2:10)
    • They didn’t teach their kids!
      • They took for granted that their children would just grow up to be good Jews.
      • Deuteronomy 6:6-7 – We must deliberately teach our children.
      • I Samuel 2:12 – Eli’s sons did not know the Lord even though they were priests!
  • “You shall tear down their altars” (Judges 2:2)
  • That they “might be taught war” (Judges 3:2)

  • Herod and peer pressure (John 9:20-23; 12:42-43)
  • Mark 6:31-32 – Jesus was surrounded by crowds by this time.  He and His disciples got out in a boat to rest, but even that was not much of a rest.
  • Mark 6:33-44 – Jesus feeds five thousand men plus women and children.
  • Mark 6:45-52 – Jesus walks on the water.
    • Mark 6:52 – The disciples did not learn what they should have from Jesus feeding the five thousand.
  • Mark 6:53-56 – Jesus heals the sick at Gennesaret.
  • Mark 7:3 – It was not part of the law to wash before eating.  There were many laws of cleanliness, but this was not one of them.
  • Mark 7:5-8 – Here Jesus is making the point that if God did not command us to do something, we can’t command others to do it either.
