  • Leviticus 1-10: God defines worship
    • Leviticus 4:1-7 – Instructions for sacrificing a bull.
    • God is the one being worshiped, so He has the right to define how that is done.
    • Leviticus 10:1-3 – Nadab and Abihu worshiped in an unauthorized way. God exercised His right to define how He was worshiped.
  • Leviticus 11-15: Clean and unclean
    • Leviticus 11:1-3, 44-47 – God’s rules for clean and unclean animals.
    • Unclean does not necessarily mean sinful.
    • Leviticus 15:13
    • It was special to approach God. You had to prepare yourself and be clean.
    • Looking back, we can see the medical wisdom behind God’s rules for cleanliness.

      • Leviticus 13:45-46 – rules for handling leprosy
  • Leviticus 16-17: Atoning blood
    • Leviticus 16:15-17, 34

    • God is holy, therefor we should be holy.

    • Leviticus 25:23 – The law of jubilee. The land always belonged to God – they were just temporarily sojourning on it.

  • Receiving the Law and Wilderness Wandering (Exodus 16 – Deuteronomy)
    • Summary:
      • Second half of Exodus – The Israelites travel through the wilderness. God reveals His law for the Israelites.  The tabernacle is constructed.
      • Leviticus – Continues the recording of the law.
      • Numbers – Census of the people. 12 spies spy out the land of Canaan.  Israelites punished for unbelief with wandering in the wilderness for 40 years.
      • Deuteronomy – Moses speaks to the people and repeats God’s commands to them.
    • Moses as a leader (Deuteronomy 34:10-12)
      • God spoke to Moses directly. Deuteronomy 34:10-12
      • He was a strong and humble leader at the same time.
        • Numbers 12:3, and yet …

      • He was self-sacrificing
        • Exodus 32:31-32
      • God
        • Strict
          • The detailed nature of His laws.
          • The severity of His punishments when His laws were broken.

            • Sustaining 1 million people
            • Longsuffering
            • Special written set of laws – Deuteronomy 6:24
            • Fix for the sin problem
