  • I Peter 2:1 – “Therefore” – since they had purified their souls and been born again, Peter exhorts them to put aside malice, deceit, hypocrisy, etc. and desire the word of God.
  • I Peter 2:2 – No matter how long we have been serving God, we still need the milk of God’s word.
  • I Peter 2:3 – The word “if” here is used in the sense of “since.” Do these things in verse 2 since you have tasted the kindness of the Lord.
  • I Peter 2:9 – Christians are a chosen race in the sense that they are the people who decided to obey God. It’s not a particular physical race that are now God’s chosen race.
    • See also Colossians 1:13. We have been called out of darkness.
  • I Peter 2:10 – The quotes here are from Hosea 1:10.
  • I Peter 2:11 – We can win this war because God has promised not to tempt us beyond what we are able to bear. (I Corinthians 10:13)
  • I Peter 2:12 – We should live so as to influence others for good. Even if they have heard the word and rejected it, seeing us living well may cause them to seek God.
    • “day of visitation”:
      • Psalms 8:4
      • Psalms 106:4
      • Luke 1:68, 78
      • Luke 7:16
