  • I John 1:9
  • “Forgive” and “forgiveness” in the New Testament: leave, abandon, release.  Matthew 27:50; 4:20,22; I Corinthians 7:11 all use the same word.
  • God forgives me!
    • I Samuel 8:10-18
    • Acts 13:21-26, 38-39
    • Acts 5:30-31
    • II Chronicles 33:5-6, 9, 12-13 – God turned to help Manasseh even though he had been so evil in the past.
    • Psalm 103:1-3, 17-18 – The lovingkindness of God is from everlasting to everlasting.
    • To be forgiven:
      • We must learn and obey the gospel. Romans 1:15-16
      • We must confess our faith. Romans 10:9-10
      • We must repent and be baptized. Acts 2:38
      • After baptism, we must continue to be faithful, repenting and praying for forgiveness when we sin. Acts 8:22
    • What a change! Acts 26:18; Colossians 1:13-14
    • I forgive others!
      • Matthew 18:15-17
      • Luke 17:3-4
      • I Corinthians 5; II Corinthians 2:6-8
      • Acts 7:59-60; Luke 23:34, 43; II Peter 3:9 – Steven and Jesus prayed with a view to future repentance, but they show we should always have an attitude of forgiveness.
      • Matthew 6:12-15; 18:21-35 – If you are having trouble forgiving, it might be because you have forgotten how much forgiveness you have received.
